So that's a problem with how win8 controls the pipeline since your problem goes away with win7. I think the only real way to fix this for win8 is new chipset drivers, which I doubt it will happen soon. If you want to, I guess you can try again once win8.1 is out.

I think the bloated install HP creates is crap... I even restored with it and the WiDi driver had to be updated due to being corrupted.... but this WAS NOT my issue....
 
I got a raw retail version of Win8 if I should ever need it....
