I have just finished putting together my first serious 2 channel system (for my budget). I found the experience quite taxing but enjoyable. My problem now now is that I have purchased HE-500's after being able to compare to LCD-2, Grado rs/gs, and Denon. I was unable to compare them using my Peachtree Grand Pre w/ its headphone amp. One of the reasons I choose this unit was for its HP amp. Thinking that it would allow me to power the HE-500's. However, when listening to these cans, I am always in the 12-3 o'clock area and feel as though they aren't as lively as I remember.
First question
By always having to "crank up" the volume, am I miss sing the sweet spot for the Pre's headphone amp?
Second question
Would it be crazy/possible to add an amp like Schiit Lyr (suggestions?) to the system for the cans and still take advantage of the Peachtree front end?
My source is a laptop.
Still learning and growing within this hobby.
Biggest realizations I have encountered during this building process is that you will make mistakes and that sometimes you question what you thought you liked.
