HP-1K Dirteh Shame.

It almost looks as though the seller did everything he could to NOT sell these phones! The photos couldn't have been composed to put them in a sadder light! Terrible!!

The lettering is notoriously delicate, so no surprise there. The headband could have been carefully formed to look better, and the adjusters set to the longest position gives them some spindly look that's just plain yucky! And looking at them naked without any flats or pads at all is nearly obscene!

I suspect they are in better shape than how they appear in the unfortunate way in which they're presented.

Maybe they just need a good home.

Yeah, it's hard to lend much credibilty to the seller's statement that they "sound great!". To the uninitiated ear, a dog of a HP1000 might actually sound superb. If one of the head-fi regulars could have them in hand to confirm the sound quality, it would drastically increase the chance of a sale, and the price. I'd volunteer

Yep. I posted about these before in another thread. The previous Ebay listing had 1 single shill bidder that drove the price up to $700 - which is what they sold for. I hope that dude and his shill bidder had a fun time paying those Ebay fees (although I am sure they came up with some other scam to get out from under paying the fees).

So now here we go with round 2. Assuming the drivers are in perfect condition, I wouldn't pay much more than $150 for them personally, since it will require a lot more money (and TLC) on top of that to get them in a respectable condition - new headband, possible need of a recable, replacement locking screws, etc. And that evaluation is based only on the way they look. God only knows what kind of operational condition they are in. As it stands, they look like they were thrown out of the window of a moving vehivle driving 75 MPH. Buyer beware.

Anyway, thanks for pointing them out again. I will keep an eye on them to see if some sucker is willing to dish out that kind of cash for a dilapidated pair of headphones.
