Besides, why spend ~$1000 to have an HP1000 just to drop a current production driver in the housing?

The fact that they are ~10 years old is a frightening prospect for non collectors. They are still serviceable by Joe, but apparently he does very few, and it is not cheap.

You don't listen to drivers, you listen to headphones, and the number of HPs will stay constant no matter what. THe lack of supported drivers means that if yours dies, it's dead. forever. that risk coupled with obscene prices means that, in my opinion, the HPs are overpriced.
