I put my Shure E4Cs in one day (I use them very rarely) and after listening to some music I took them out and noticed that I couldn't really hear anymore! I couldn't even hear my watch ticking right next to my ear.

The IEMs had finally and fully impacted many years of wax buildup, it took 2 trips to the doctor, 2 days of putting in those wax softening drops and 4 irrigations to fully clean out my ears.

However the upside was that suddenly I could hear immensely tiny details, it was like high definition or something.

i use qtips. however i do have a problem with wax buildup. and thus have to clean my iems on a fairly regular basis.

also. intoflatlines. have you considered going to an ENT (ears, nose, throat) specialist? that wax that came out of your ear most def isn't normal. and might be worth looking into, esp if you are getting custom iems

Unbelievable. I had no idea the ear could hold that much wax. I wonder how much your hearing would heighten after that procedure?

Sry to bump this thread, but I have recently been liberated from earwax.

I'm south asian, and I have dry + wet earwax?

Outer layer is dry, and inside is wet.

I cleaned it out with a syringe + hot water. I am amazed how much was sitting in there, and understand why I had to turn the volume up so much.

Actually just today my left ear "pooped" out a perfect wax ball. Perfect size for a mini pinball replacement.

I've got earwax, but I don't really know how to handle it. The OTC products just make my ears raw, red, and painful, and just don't seem to get rid of much wax. I think the problem is that in addition to the wax, the skin in my ears is very dry and flaky. Thanks ultra-low-humidity high desert!

I've had doctors do irrigations, which isn't painful for me for some reason, and seems to work. The problem there is that I can't get it done very often.
