I have a HD 280 pro and my ears start to hurt after a few hours of using it. It also makes a dent on my hair too, which sucks. Will the 600/650 be more comfortable?
The HD650's are very comfortable after you either break in the headband over time with wearing or if you decide to bend the metal bars yourself. Initially you'll get the similar vice grip from the 280's though.
Bigger heads will feel more squeeze but they are not bad with time. Comfort (lack of) should not be a factor when choosing these headphones. That said, my Denon's are much more comfortable for my head.
Like others have said, they will be tight at first, but give them time/do the bendy trick and they will be SUPER comfortable in no time.
And I know what you're saying about it f'ing with your hair. I've been getting my hair cut more often because I can't stand the weird inverted Leia look after using Sennheisers
Once adjusted the Senn HD580/600/650 are some very comfy cans. Unfortunately head-phone hair is an occupational hazard of this hobby, when it comes to full sized cans.
I used to have some 280's a looonnng time ago but do recall them being like having a vise on your head vs. my 650's. I also had a pair of 580's for 4 years and yes they are all day comfy.
Properly adjust your HD650, HD600, HD580. See the link in my sig. This requires bending the metal band in a very specific way before listening to the headphones or stretching them over your head, unless the headphones happen to already fit. I owned the HD280, HD580, HD650.
