How would I remove a fly from HD800s?

So I was listening to youtube when, for the second time this week, I heard a tapping sound from the right side of my HD800s. Immediately my thoughts went to come sort of defect in the driver. I cursed my luck and almost went and looked for the receipt. My lack of faith in Sennheiser is disturbing.

The pictures pretty much sum it up. I've got no ideas apart from poking the thing with a needle and slowly ripping it to pieces but that will both take an eternity and comes with significant risk.

Anyway, help, ideas or failing that interesting stories to pass the time while I poke my HD800s with a needle would be much appreciated. Here's an imgur link to the first photo in case something doesn't work. http://i.imgur.com/0lRFCRA.jpg Hope this is the right thread.

And no, I have no freakin clue how it got there.

Yikes, that's a tricky one!

I'd email Sennheiser for advice before risking doing anything potentially damaging, with a needle.

That aside, I couldn't find many images of HD800 disassembly (and no videos on youtube)

WTH, that thing lived week(s) in there, was from the manufacture or there's some big gap around or was first a small fly fit in the grill hole and started growing.

Send the pics to Sennheiser for rechecking QC whatever.

Fly should dried up soon then it falls apart easily.

i would leave it in there.  it adds character and probably helps with sound dampening.

What kind of fly-by-night attitude is that?

Does that driver sound like it has more air than the other?

Be thankful the fly is not in ointment.......

You could get a frog to try and get it out...

Put one in the other driver for a matched pair.

btw, what do you call a fly with no wings?

A walk.....

Update: I'll clarify it's actually a moth but I'm lovin the fly puns so keep 'em coming. Wink, that fly without wings joke is the only non baby related joke I've bothered to remember in the past 10 years so it was a great addition to see.

Good idea contacting Sennheiser about it, I'll be sure to give them a call but I don't think they'll be able to do much about it without me opening my wallet. Thanks also for the disassembly suggestion Mython but I don't think it's worth the risk for what is essentially a cosmetic issue. My only thought to expand on my original idea is to use a vacuum while the stabbing occurs in order to suck the mutilated body parts through the mesh. Let me know if you've got any other ideas.

A (semi) interesting side note: I originally thought I was wearing my T1s as hair inside the earcups can scratch against the mesh covering the drivers. For anyone wondering, the moth crawling around made a very similar sound.

Methinks they should at least ease the pain/soften the blow a little. Please let us know what they say.

Yeah, I wasn't really encouraging you to go ahead and disassemble; more noting it as a last resort. I don't blame you at all for being reticent about tinkering with such an expensive headphone.

My logic ran to exactly the same thing, although I'd be wary that in order to get sufficient vaccuum to successfully draw the fragments through the fine holes of the mesh, there might be a small, but nonetheless significant, risk of distorting the ring radiator diaphragm.

I really would wait, instead, and see what Sennheiser suggest. My guess is a return to a service centre, for (I hope) nothing more severe than a nominal fee.

In the meantime, I hope we'll see some worthy Lepidoptera jokes

Precisely why I think I'll wait till Sennheiser has their say, I'll be sure to post their thoughts and/or actions.

...I think it's fair to say I've scientifically proven the HD800 as an artifically bright headphone with this little fiasco
