Headphoneus Supremus
I frequently watch movies using cans. It works great, but looses some of the impact if you like action movies. I am not a fan of surround, and have never found much use for rear or center channel speakers (and I have tried). Most of the systems that I have heard do more to detatch the sound from the movie than create anything resembling realism. I would be thrilled if they could just get the image correct across a good sized screen before adding shell casings dropping behind me.
Oops, sorry. Haven't ranted lately, I guess. Anyway I do recommend trying the movie+headphone experience. No surround processor required. A good amp and set of cans will certainly help. I like my Corda + DT831s the best in this role.
