I have a pair of HD-600, but no headphone amp yet. I saw in a FAQ that you can use your poweramp to drive headphones. Can someone give me a step-by-step of how to do this? I have almost no experience with electronics (only soldered a few things together), so please keep it simple.

Hello,

Probably that isn't good idea especially since you are using HD600, the king of dynamic headphones that cost "kingly" as well. So I don't recommend ... however, if you so wish here goes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATT.gif

R1, R2, R2/(R+R2)

6.8 1.2 0.15

6.2 1.8 0.23

5.6 2.4 0.30

4.7 3.3 0.41

3.3 4.7 0.59

2.4 5.6 0.70

1.8 6.2 0.78

1.2 6.8 0.85

Note that R1+R2=8ohms. This matches the output impedance of your speaker amp. Note also, that excess power from your amp will be dissipated by these resistors, so use power resistors 3~5W resistors. Author comments that lower the value of R2/(R1+R2) will result in lower noise level, but that will increase distortion.

I am quoting from Evolving Power Amplifier (http://www.ne.jp/asahi/evo/amp/index.htm). It's in Japanese but it's really detailed and informative. I wish the guy translates the site some day for us.
