I have a question about the volume. If I want let's say 70% of the volume, do I set my phone to 70% volume, and then just adjust the amp to a good level, or do I have my phone on 100%? What is a good balance between the two...

You should let the amplifier do the work, unless you're getting weird distortion. Keep your phone's volume 50%~100%. Then turn your Fiio's volume and see where it goes to hit your listening level volume. If you can leave your phone on 100%, and the Fiio still has a lot of room to go higher on volume, then you're fine. If it's very loud, distorted, etc, then drop the volume on the phone back towards 50%.
