how to use direct dsd mode on rme adi 2 dac

i connected my smsl sp20 and rme adi 2dac with 3pin xlr balanced and tried to find how direct dsd mode actually work. i turn on dsd mode on rmes setting but im not sure how this actually work. Please someone help me how to set this right. Thank you.

Direct DSD is only available out the back (RCA, XLR). You cannot use it for headphones.

It avoids converting to PCM, so you have no filtering options, no EQ, and no volume control.
