Hi all, im about to trade for a pair of hd650s, and im just wondering if there a way to tell the difference between the old ones and the new once by serial numbers. the one im buying is at 49xxx. from pictures it looks kinda silver from the grill side but that might be due to flash from the camera. can any 1 shed some light on this?

Eew! Less bass? Good thing I have the old HD650!

If you have pictures, look at the headband's foam. The foam is a big difference. The old Senn has small padding on the headband. The new HD650 has a humungous, stiff-looking foam.

New one, notice the big fat foam with well-defined groove in the middle

Old one:

Much flatter, rounded band with less sharp groove in the middle

If the color is hard to distinguish, this is a physical solid difference to look at.

could that be due to the useage of the headphones?

edit: apparently not, these old senns still have a nice grove in the middle. NICE TIP!

There is a thread about the differences in drivers for the hd650. There have been 3 variations thus far....also with pictures of the drivers..do a search on head-fi...
