Mostly from either a Macbook Pro/Macbook Air, sometimes via bluetooth but not too often.

Not between the speakers and the Macbook. If you get a DAC with a preamp or headphone output you could get slightly better decoding and analogue signal handling vs BT, but not a lot for how much money you'll spend. 
 
You could however deal with the soundwaves after they leave the speaker. Get angled speaker stands so they point towards your head - the sound is better aimed as well as reducing the pathlength variance from your head to the tweeter vs the midwoofer.
 
See how the orange and purple lines are closer in length in the bottom diagram.

 
After that you can look into managing reflections if the speakers are within 1m of the walls in any direction.
