The speaker wire was poorly terminated. Loose speaker wire strips are within the speaker terminal. 
 
What is the best way to remove all those bare speaker wire strips from within the av receiver's speaker terminal? 
 
The av receiver is the RX-V673.

The speaker terminals are the Yamaha type that have a knob that can be tightened and loosened. However, the knob doesn´t seems to come off completely. The speaker terminals can receive banana plugs.

Had a look at the video . You have to freeze it quick but while the speaker outputs[main] have sockets for banana plugs if you screw the plastic nuts right back this will allow you to push a probe into the back of the terminal and force out the broken pieces. Most of the space is shrouded to stop the bare wires touching the case but there will be a slot to allow you to push out the broken wires. ---Its also possible that there is a hole that you push the wires through if that is the case then you will have to use a small rounded probe that is capable of going through the small hole. I have come across this type before.
