The 5th generation ipods apparently have the capability to record, but they are incompatable with previous ipod accessories that need an extra electrical contact that is only present on earlier versions in order to function.

How can I get a mic-in jack hooked up to my 5th generation ipod so that I can use my ipod to record sound? I haven't been able to find any ipod accessories that allow for this kind of functionality but do not use the extra electrical contacts that are not present in the latest generation of ipods.

As far as I know no one has made a recorder accessory for the 5G. I think your only option at this point is waiting...
