Now I love this whole digital revolution. Lately things have been stale though. There's quite a long list of thing I wish they'd add to DAPs. The biggest thing I'd like to see is a DAP take full advantage of ID3 tags.

I like having album art and being able to view lyrics on my iPod, but I wish I could see more tings like:

- Have a space for Artist biographies. 'Cause I love reading up on artist while I listen to their tunes.
- Have an additional info screen. That shows year, composer, genre and label.

What other realistic things would you like to see on a DAP?

Yeah,

I really agree with 20nickels!

But then I think auio industry has to change too. That ain't gonna happen .....
But 24Bit /96Khz audio would be awsome!! And way better AMPs! I mean, 10 mW? Com'on people. MAybe Time-correct cables? But I don't know howmuch this effects DAP's.

I agree with taking more advantage of the Id3 tag. I also really like the "MusicMarker" feature on some of the Venzero DAPs, really helps when i listen to something at a restaurant or some place, that i like.

software development has gone as far as it needs to with rockbox. with that in mind the ideal dap would be;
small, high capacity flash based, long battery life and rockboxable.
thats all that is necessary for me.

My don't wants:
Dont need proprietary operating software
Dont need a mic
Dont need line-in recording.
Dont need huge color screen
Dont need EQ presets (jazz, classical, pop...PUKE!!)
Dont need the hiss and buzz when using balanced armature IEMs.

My desires:
-windows drag-drop compatibility
-optical output
-true line output, bypasses the headphone stage.
-headphone out that plays balanced armature IEMs cleanly.
-easily replaceable battery compartment.
-User definable parametric EQ, user can specify 4-5 target frequencies.
-A Xin super-micro built-in, or an AD8397 based headphone output.
-Simple LCD screen thats back-lit.
-hard-drive and battery thats easy to replace (IE don't need to send it in).

Faster file transfer speeds would be nice too... but not a must IMHO.

Same here, my desires too. It would be nice to have a super simplified DAP that only have either Line out or Optical out and generous space for future HDD upgrade - and yes MUST support all three major lossless format - be it FLAC, WMA Lossless, or ALAC - in my dream perhaps
