Alright... Since joining head-fi, I have come across numerous braiding threads and have come across the question of "how do I do X braid?" many times. So in order to stop being constantly annoyed by that question, I figured we could make a "how to braid cables" megathread. I'll update with all forms possible if people share. I'll also give credit for each pictorial that isn't mine.

Revision history:
1.00 uploaded 6 strand and 3 strand
1.01 better sequence pictures

3-strand: pictorial by FooTemps

Starting position with 3 strands

From the left, cross the green over the red. AKA: cross the outside left over the middle.
The position is now 2-1-3

DSC00043.jpg

Now take the white and cross it over the red. AKA: cross the outside right over the middle.
The position is 2-3-1

Repeat the sequence of over 1 to get a 3-strand braid

Here is one full sequence to return to the 1-2-3 order.

So here is your starting position. I'm keeping the wires wide for ease of you to follow.

DSC00034.jpg

Starting with the right white wire, cross over 4 wires.
The position is now 1-6-2-3-4-5

DSC00035.jpg

Now cross the right white wire UNDER the black wire.
The position is now 1-2-6-3-4-5

DSC00036.jpg

Now cross the right white wire OVER the blue wire.
The position is now 1-2-3-6-4-5

DSC00037.jpg

Doing the same for the left side white, you cross the left side white over 4 wires.
The position is now 2-3-6-4-1-5

DSC00038.jpg

Now cross the left white wire UNDER the green wire.
The position is now 2-3-6-1-4-5

DSC00039.jpg

Now cross the left white wire OVER the right white wire.
The position is now 2-3-1-6-4-5

Repeat this sequence of across 4 over, twist under, over 1 to get a 6-strand round braid.

This is one full sequence that returns back to 1-2-3-4-5-6.
