[Abstraction]

My ER-4Ps are intermittent, and the problem seems to be in the plug. I am probably just going to cut it off and see if it looks like I'd have any luck soldering on a new plug (I built a lot of ham radio gear back in tube days, so I know how to solder), but any prior advice would be welcome.

In general, I find IEMs very fragile. My wife and I have gone through several fairly expensives phones.
