since putting together DIY headamps has been one of my first experiences with soldering, i have a very basic question - is there an environmentally friendly way to dispose of leaded solder waste? i've thrown away tiny pieces, but i'm about to clean out the receiver under my Hakko's sponge, and i certainly don't want to throw away that huge chunk of solder.

Well, if you are so inclined, you could look up household hazardous waste roundups in your area. They can be a permanent facility, but are usually set up (swap meet style) throughout the year at various locations for you to take in household hazardous waste products for disposal.
