I'm sure most of you know how to do this but i thought id share this link i found that helped my indeed lots!
the stock tube wasn't able to go above 14V on the left channel! no wonder its crap... my sylvania is as close to 16.5V as i can get it on both channels and the amp is a new amp that is for sure, it was off by 3V on the left and 4V on the right channel... glad i did this
