Schubert is one of my favorite composers, and his String Quintet one of my favorite works. It doesn't always have that 'lost in time' experience for me but at times it does and it's truly ethereal. It's interesting to see a scientific 'explanation' for some of the appeal of this exceptional piece of music. On the surface much of the piece is very simple, yet the impact is so profound.
