i got my dt990's in the mail today, and am listening to them through my pc and tbaam. the tbaam is able to drive it to listenble levels easily, but i can't help but wonder how much better things would sound if i added an amp to the chain. would it really make much of a difference? thanks

* ok..got a very helpful pm stating that an amp makes a huge difference with the 990. i guess that answers my question

Lots better.

I just got a set of 880's a couple of weeks ago and thought I had stood in the light.

I happened to land an older Meier HA-1 MK-1 which is an older amp technology and it was steps beyond better.

Now to work on the sources...

Yeah, LOTS better. Your DT990's are 250 ohm headphones, and they need some muscle. You'll get tighter, more powerful bass, and smoother highs, with a decent amp.

I use the PA2V2 with my dt990 and they sound amazing.Without the amp they are weak sounding and soft.these are great headphones but you need an amp and the cheap PA2V2 will work fine.
