My wife makes me keep my collection hidden in a closet. I am approaching 2000 CDs. I have about 300 LPs after getting rid of 200 a couple of years ago. Which I now regret.

All of CDs are ripped, non of my LPs. I initially started ripping to MP3, got an iPod and switched to AAC. Now I'm slowly reripping to ALAC for archive and home listening. I still use AAC on my iPod which I never use for critical listening.

In iTunes

AAC and MP3 - 1878 albums, 25,270 songs, 118.1 days, 115.71 GB

ALAC - 573 albums, 6619 songs, 23.8 days, 164.14 GB

And I don't have enough music

Edit: I listen with shuffle by album and I'm constantly rediscovering music I haven't heard for a while. It's great.

For the ultimate collection there's this The World's Greatest Music Collection - eBay (item 320230084120 end time Mar-29-08 18:00:00 PDT)

That's a problem. I use all types of sources, Amazon, AMG, my library, and the music forum here just to name a few off the top of my head. I've seen pandora and last.fm mentioned a lot here. I've never seriously used them because I already have so much I want to buy.

If I was you, I'd start threads in the music forum. There are probably plenty of people here who share your tastes.

TOTALLY. Out of the 3 or 4 hundred bands/groups I listen to, I have about 3 in common with each of my friends. I usually find out about new music to listen to by word of mouth also, so as you may have guessed its taken me some time to get into all the music that I have. To answer the question my iTunes library currently has around 9,000 songs on it.

Oh, and I can't wait to see Opeth live on May 10th in Calgary! Opeth and Dream Theater in one night is going to blow my f'ing brains into the sky. If the show is anything like the Roundhouse Tapes, I'm going to die very happily

I am going to that show when they come to atlanta. I want to know their set to see if it is worth tapping.

I don't feel like taking a screenshot, but here are the stats from Amarok/Nautilus:

7132 tracks
3 weeks, 2 days
94.5GB

~1/3 FLAC, the rest is (mostly) high bitrate MP3.

I have such a large library that I can no longer keep track of it all- I usually listen on random and hope I bump into something I feel like listening to at that moment.

I also keep a full offsite backup...

are they all 128kbps mp3's. that seems like a small amount of hdd space to be taken up by 24k songs.

probably includes album art too, I'm too lazy to count them all haha. A lot of them are grindcore and hardcore and such, which songs are like 1-2 minutes.

How much music do I have? Not enough. Only a couple hundred CD's that have been ripped in WMA, some cassets and the occasional vynl hanging around. Windows Media Player says 41.4 GB with 3888 songs. I know I have more, but I am running out of HDD space for it all.

Correction, 2016 songs. 68% Lossless, 20% 256+ MP3, 12% 128 MP3.
