Currently, my music collection consists of 123GB of Apple Lossless digital music, 1,376 store bought CD's, and 637 vinyl LP's. I also have a miscellaneous pile of cassettes, and yes a few 8-track tapes!
I probably own just over 1200 albums and there's about 200GB of music in my iTunes library. Most of the files are 256kbps VBR AAC files. I only used to store important CDs as Apple Lossless files, but now after I bought a new 1TB external HDD I've started to rip everything to ALAC.
Approximate:
3500 lps
1300 cds
600 45s
250 78s (used to have lots more, took too much space)
130 cassettes (used to have more, slowly getting out of the format)
100 cylinders
25 tape reels
I've gotten out of 8-tracks and mini-discs.
I have at least 10 turntables although some are in project stage. I've got digital music too but I don't count it because most of its ripped from my cds for portable use.
For a number of years I've tried to be very picky about adding to the collection after figuring I'll probably never get to listen again to a lot of what I already own. Everything gets played once before it goes on the shelf.
