How much do you spend on equipment compared to music?

I'm curious. Here at headfi the headphone forum is overflowing with new messages everyday, far more than the music forums. So I was wondering, do people here spend more on equipment, or on music. Let me start with myself.

Equipment: Senn HD595, AT FC7, AT CK7, and PA2V2.

Cost: (in USD) 220 + 35 + 75 + 60 = 390

Music: 25 CDS, about $12 each.

Cost: $300

Hmm, despite being the budding audiophile that I am, the (relatively)

small amount of money I spend on equipment is still more than the money I spent on music so far. Now I guess I better go back to spending the rest of my money to even up the odds.

So how about you guys?

I'm horrible in this regard.
I have roughly 50 cd's at €15 a piece: €750 ($950) in music.
On audio equipment, roughly:
Grado RS-1: $575
DT770: $100
E4c: $250
Firestone Cute Beyond: $180
Mapletree Ear+ HD: $650
EC-01: $250
Firestone Fubar: $130
Nad C521i: $200
Total: $2335

I'm doing my best to catch up. From now on no more headphones, only music.

Over the years, I've spent much, much more on music than on equipment. I think it's much easier to do that over the long haul when CD's cost only $5-$20, and a good piece of equipment costs many times that. For me, it's a lot easier to blow $15 many many times, than to spend $1k once.

It's almost hard to think about it. I have ~3000-4000 CD's/DVD's. So that's maybe $50-60k spent over the past 25 years, which is ~$2-3k per year. I've spent significantly less than that on equipment.

I myself haven't spent that much, (unless you count DIY cable supplies, which is more for fun) and I have around 40-50 CDs. My dad also has a ton of music that I really like, which I didn't have to buy.

Well I have 1000 + CDs including a few complete editions and I get at least 10 new CDs per month so I spend a lot more on music than on equipment.

I have 1,000+ CDs (forget exact number now... just got 19 more the other day). That is and always will be my largest expense as I love just about all kinds of music.

That said I do not see a reason to feel bad if you have spent more on gear then CDs. I know that there are a few CDs that I own that I have listened to about 100+ times. If you are content with a handfull of CDs then consider yourself lucky that you have more money to spend on making them sound the best you can.

let's just assume that each song in your library is worth $.99 - that way I'm certain you'll see that you've spent more on music (or should have), right?

Exceptions would be folks who have spent their entire lives just pursuing the perfect reproduction of Beethoven's 5th. Hey, there's only so many copies of the 5th you can get (I think...)

That would be me. I am always looking for the perfect Mozart Requiem and other such great classical works. I have even chased down some RARE Beatles CD's and other greats.

As for the 5th, I still like the early Karajan.

Hmmm.. I think I've managed to do pretty well keeping more invested in my music collection than just equipment.

I've got about 600 or so CDs, and I've bought a lot used, so probably I guess something like $8-10 each on average, putting it around $5000-$6000. If I had actually paid $15 a piece that'd be more like $9000.

A quick tally of all audio equipment (sources, amps, headphones, speakers, tubes, cables, etc) puts me around $4000 for everything I currently own.
