Am after a cable that connects from my Dap with a 4.4 linout balanced cable and plugged into an amp with dual XLR's balanced inputs at the back.
Have been told by a bloke I know who makes cables that the interconnect cable would need six wires, is this correct as I have no idea ?

Yes, each XLR connector would need 3.
Positive, Negative, and Ground. The two Ground leads would be combined and connected to the sleeve (the S of TRRRS) of the 4.4mm connector.
