I thought this was cool.  Thanks Signature Sound for sharing this with me.  Explains why tubes cost what they do.  Pretty, amazing.

Auditioned a Von Schweikert system based on the Kronzilla tube amp (the tube featured in the video). Huge, imposing tubes in real life. Only if it could sound as good as it looked. Incredibly coloured, just like the LCD-3 (recabled), or Bose OE (yes, I went there). Saxophones sounded like tangerines instead of brass. Bass had this visceral slam that at times felt artificial, and high-end was harsh and slightly rolled-off. Oh, and replacement tubes cost about as much as a full entry-level system, not to mention that you can't roll the tubes, because there was never a tube this large, or remotely similar. Of course, YMMV.
Nevertheless, impressive workmanship.
