How High Can You Hear? And How Old Are You?

Okay, I knew something was messed up because I'm the one among my friends who can always hear high pitched noises (TVs, lights, etc.). I initially took the test with my AKGs and couldn't hear the 18kHz. I changed over to my Senns and could hear the 18kHz clearly with no audible drop in volume compared to the other frequencies.

Shows that the cans you use for the test can cause a dramatic difference in the results. Funny too that the Senns seem to have better high-frequency extension than the AKGs. Maybe it's because my K701s aren't yet fully burned in.

Ouch, that really hurt

I think up to 21khz is still audible for young people (like me), but depends on the person.

All humans can hear 40kHz if the sound is played loud enough. Not all headphones can play that high but you can get ribbon tweeters and play them at extreme levels.

between 18 and 20 change during the day (normal) 21 and lucky to still here that high pitch since iam working in an engine room with 100 to 130 db sound level with ear muff but that only remove maximum 35 db i put plug under the muff to bring it down to 45 50 db insulation but still not a good place for your ear.
but still nothing sound better then a 15 000 horsepower diesel running full load

I'm 23 and last year I took a hearing exam and as I recall, I was able to hear past 21 kHz (I forget what the upper limit I could go to was.)

53 and I can hear the 15khz tone but not the 16khz one.
