How does the A900 compare to the Grado sr225?

Pretty different cans. If you like the A900 then go for the 225s.

The A900 and SR225 are TOTALLY different. You will have to try both and see what you like better. An sr225 and ms1 are probably more similar.

any truth to that?

Well, they do have many similarities in sond signature. A bit sparkly, not that different of a bass, etc. I do think that the MS1 has a relatively more balanced sound with a little bit more detail.
However, when you play rock songs, you can clearly hear that the alessandro is a lot more energetic, faster, and string insruments sound much better on the MS1.
If you don't listen to many rock songs, the price deifference may be harder to justify. Just my 2 cents.

EDIT: I'm talking about MS1 with HD414 quarter mod pads and the KSC75 clips bent toward the ear btw. Not modded, the MS1 may sound worse than the koss.
