Hey, i have the opportunity to buy the Magni + Modi combo 2nd hand for $150 AUS ($111.33 US), and i'm just trying to gage whether that's a good deal or not.

They are first generation Schiit products. How's their quality?

My headphones are AKG K712's and other amp/DAC combos i'm looking at are FX Audio DAC-X6 and SMSL M3. How do 1st gen Schiit compare to those?

I'm an audio engineer so particularly interested in sound quality rather than volume. I.e. soundstage, separation, accuracy, etc. Budget is about $120 US.

Thanks

I think it's a safe purchase. I have the Magni 3 and Modi 2 Uber hooked up with my PS4 pro. I also run with a pair of AKG 712 pros, the Shiit stack is probably one of the best budget combos you can get. They pair really well with the the 712s. I do warn the 712s may only be around 60 ohms but they are not sensitive. They take a lot of juice to get them to sound at their best. I just posted my Magni 3 for sale because I got a Little Dot 1+ and wanted to try the land of hybrid tubes. For your budget I'd go with the stack.
