I may sound like an idiot for asking but I have no clue as to what the tool is used for

It's a little plastic thing with a pencil shape on one side and a protruding metal piece on the other.

I just use it to clean out the sound hole in the tips. Point the tips downward so anything dislodged falls out rather than into the IEM. I usually just use the wire end and all I ever do is remove any wax that has accumulated inside the tip.

my SM3 tool has a magnet on the tail end, any ideas?

i find it essentially useless.
i'm using this toothpick with brushes thing to clean it.
so much better, and easier.
