I listen to music for almost 8 hours a day some days. I always have my Zen Vision M and Sleek SA6's on me through my day. After reading many articles about damaged hearing that our Ipod generation will be experiencing, I became paranoid. I have my volume set to between 8-10 (some times lower) out of 25. I know this is all relative to the impedance of the headphone and the particular player (so it is hard to reference) but what does everyone think about this level. I would rather use it around 10 because I can hear a little more detail.

The reason I got the SA6's is because they give such better isolation than my Bose in ears.

I say that iem's will be better for you, as long as used wisely.

Only turn it up enough to hear all the details, then turn it down a notch from there. Your ears will adjust.

And if you have any ringing, even slightly, after you listen then you need to turn it down.

But mostly, pay attention to the upper mids and highs. If they seem the slightest bit harsh, turn it down.
