I recable with canare star quad, cut them to the desired length. terminate with new TRS connector.

If you're talking headphone cables, loop the cable and use a small piece of velcro (twist tie if you must) to hold things in place....OR....

you can put the headphone on and then spin around the room until all the excess cable is gathered around your neck. Unspin to give yourself a little slack. Clockwise is suppose to sound better than counterclockwise. That hard to breathe feeling will initally strengthen but eventually pass, I promise you'll never feel it again.

I dont use the ex-71's anymore, but when I was using them, I found the cable to be way too long. Here is a picture of my solution. To me, this was a lot neater than any sort of velcro or twist tie.

I wish headphone cables were 1m long only....if i wanted longer i could always use an extension right? Walking around is so irritating with the damn cable dragging on the floor getting caught on stuff...I'm so sick of it i almost want to get them recabled...anyway my temporary solution is to use a bit of string to tie a few loops of cable so it's shorted, but its ugly

I like having long cable. Stops you treading on it and yanking your 'phones off your head.

Not such a bad thing with lovely detachable cable!

Round the waist, through my belt loops.

I had the HD595 cord shortened to 1 meter and terminated in a mini plug. The extra cord has a female mini plug on the end that was cut and the stock 6.3mm plug on the other. The included 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter can be used if necessary.

I also had the RS-1 cord shortened to 1.2 meters and terminated to a 3.5mm mini plug. I use it often with an iPod and SuperMacro-3, and the long, stiff cord with 6.3mm plug was not ideal. The resale value has taken a hit, but I intend to keep the RS-1 for a long time.

If needed, I also have the yellow 1.5 meter extension cord with a female 3.5mm plug on one end and male 3.5mm on the other. I like this cord because it is light and flexible.

Somehow, those 3m/10ft are always just perfect for my setups

No cords on the ground or stretched to the verge of extraction. If a cord happens to be much too long, it goes around my neck.

Neat indeed. Did you notice any sonic difference?

Not really the same thing, but I once played with coiling a headphone wire, a few turns, around a ferrite rod, and it was easy to detect a change in the sound signature.
