I ordered a Nexus 5 yesterday and was wondering how I can go about connecting it to my car's sound system. With my iPhone 5, I used:

What's the best way I can go about this on the Nexus 5?

You would need an external DAC that can interface with the Nexus 5's USB port.
Not sure if there is even a current DAC that can be used with a Nexus 5?
Or if your car audio is new enough, you might be able to connect using a USB cable, from the Nexus 5's USB port to the car's USB port.
 
Why not just load all your music files on to a USB flash drive and plug it into the car's USB port?
(if it has a USB port?)

My car (2009 G37) has:
 
1) iPod in (30-pin) - currently used for a iPod Classic that just sits in the car
2) Auxiliary (composite) - basic red/white/yellow RCA connector audio and video in <-- what I want to connect my Nexus to
3) Compact Flash slot - unused
4) Internal HD (for ripping music from CDs) - unused
 
It's important for me to be able to use my Nexus 5 in the car as I host a music server (Subsonic) which has all my music on it (terabytes of music), so I need something I can stream with. Most of my music is FLAC, the rest is 320/V0, so quality is important to me.
 
Is there no way to go about bypassing the internal amp without the use of a DAC? How come it was possible on the iPhone with the composite AV cable?
 
I'm 99% sure the Nexus 5's micro USB port is compatible with the same set of accessories as the Nexus 4. Are there any DAC's that are popular among Nexus 4 owners?

Because Apple and the car maker worked together to design the car's audio equipment to interface with each other.

 If using the 30-pin Apple dock connector that is what is being used to bypass the iPod/iPhone DAC.But just a Cheap iPod/phone composite cable like this, will not by pass the DAC hooking up through the Composite A/V.
 
For the Nexus 5 you could try going Slim-port to HDMI and then use an HDMI to Composite Converter to get your A/V connected.
(But might be easier to just use a 3.5mm Male to RCA (red/ white) cable with or without a portable headphone amp to improve sound)
