I've always found it somewhat easier to compare a few main characteristics of headphones such as the following:

-how muffled they sound
-the quality and harshness of their treble
-how high the treble goes

but I've never understood how people compare bass when they say that so and so is a lot deeper, what does it feel like to have deep bass? Is there anything that could help me identify this aspect of headphones other than just the terminology...I'm looking for impressions here of what they feel when they hear a certain good quality bass vs. what they feel when they hear poor quality bass.

Thanks.

For me, good bass is powerful but clean bass. There is a sense of ease that comes from an accurate articulation of the full lower frequency; dirty bass is over-emphasis on usually the upper end of the lower frequencies, which makes for a muddy impact and loss of detail.
