I had great success driving my K701 with: Heed CanAmp, X-Can V2, or an MPX3.

I'm using a computer > Toslink > CAL Sigma II tube dac > Red Dawn ICs > SP Extreme Platinum+ amp. WE 2c51/TS 5998 in the amp and a 12ay7 in the dac.

I don't recommend an SP amp. As good as some sound, there are some poorly designed & built units and the company is a con shop that has lied and cheated this community. If you can find a certified (technician approved) used unit, you would get a deal with all the bad press.

I drive mine with X-Can V2 and V8. I also use an Aune DAC/headamp. If I'm on the computer and want to just play some music in another room, I've started to use the little Bravo tube amplifier. So cheap and lots of power.

The K701 is fine with them all.
