How do STAX ear speakers sound for gaming?

My 404 are great for gaming! I've been playing Company of Heroes, Rainbow Six: Vegas and FIFA 06 using Stax earspeakers

The 404 is not meant for gaming. It may incidentally work for gaming, and I do remember the sound placement being pretty precise, but it's complete and utter overkill.

Can you take a supercar to go shopping? Sure. Doesn't mean that it's a good use for one.

What kind of games are you playing? I didn't notice anything horribly undetailed or ANYTHING along those lines when I played UT2004 with my SR-404s. Certainly not overkill.

You aren't a McLaren F1 fan, are you

Besides, the SR-404s are more like a Skyline GTR-34, and I'd definitely drive that everywhere! (The Lambda Pros are the R32, and Lambda Sigs are the R33)

Quake 3 (OSP and bit of CPMA), WoW, a whole bunch of others where sound didn't matter. Q3 has a very good sound engine as far as 3d placement goes, and is my benchmark.

The sound isn't undetailed, it's quite the opposite. There's too much resolution, and you hear too much information about the shortcomings of your system to focus on the game.

Also, using open headphones is a big no-no unless you've got a silent machine. Isolation improves perceived 3d placement since you have less ambient distractions.

Overhyped. I'd take the Dauer 962LM over it any day. Besides, when $100k will get a Supra to do 1/4 in 8 secs (and I shudder to think what the same money will do in a real muscle car), you don't really need the F1... Get the Ultima GTR body and shove some american muscle in there, and you'll be eating F1's for breakfast.

I love the looks of the SSC Aero though. That new TT version looks sweet, though once again the same money can get you much further in a tuner. 1180hp out of 5.9 liters isn't that impressive anymore.

I'd love to see the Freestream T1 project finished, too. It claims 3g lateral acceleration and over 1000hp/metric ton ... we'll see.

Good choice... but you won't hear me argue for a second that the McLaren doesn't have the performance numbers. It's more the flaws, the total experience that endear it to me. Oh, and the engine... I know it's not the most powerful... but the sound... I'm a total BMW Motorsport fanboy... nothing sounds like their engines. I had an early E34 M5 for a while with the 3.6 liter 24 valve six-banger, and that sound will stay with me forever. Different strokes...
