I just wonder how bad the sound is going to degrade if I transcode from ogg q7 to LAME a.p.e.?

How bad? Um, somewhat bad.

Transcoding as a concept is stupid. Whether you'll be able to hear the stupidity depends on your ears/equipment. You should rip again from cd, or transcode from a lossless source. If you're just gonna listen on your portable you might be ok.

Yeah, for these files I don't have the original FLAC copies on my PC and I don't have the CDs. This is all older stuff that I either ripped from my dad's CDs or CDs that I no longer have.

why even transcode? if it's for using on a dap, might as well use a lower bitrate and save on the file size because the loss in fidelity is already going to be a good hit. use alt preset standard
