Good people of this forum, I need to solicit your collective recommendations.

Rather than to run long cables from my HT system for headphone use, I've been thinking of getting a CDP with a good phone jack (with its own gain control) to place on an end table and just plug my headphones into for either private listening or late night enjoyment. I would add a home amp later as budget allows. I'd like good quality at reasonable cost (probably not too surprising to anyone). I don't need audiophile quality as I don't know if I'd really appreciate the differences (as well, my budget will dictate just how "audiophile" I can become).

I've been using a PCDP for this purpose and while it's okay, I'm sure a home unit would yield much better sound. If it matters for the purposes of this request, I listen mostly to jazz and classical music.

A single CD player would be fine for my purposes.


Has anyone else done this?
What would you recommend?

If this has been discussed before, I'd appreciate a link to it. I've run searches to no avail.

Forgot to add that the phones I'll be using would be either my Senn 580 or my Ety 4P with 4S adaptor.

Find yourself a Philips CDC-935 carousel player. It has a wonderful headphone jack and is super cheap.

The last one on eBay went for a hilarious $16.50!
