I am using a thinkpad for my music source. I have a USB sound card that is setup to be bit perfect (Soundblaster Live 24 bit).

But today I noticed that if I plug it into the other USB port, it plays 10 DB quieter, and I cannot get it to be bet perfect! What!?!?! Very weird.

I have the mixer disabled in the device manager. I've tried both KS and ASIO4ALL. Everything looks identical for both cases, but the lower USB port will not pass the DTS test (using foobar) but the top one passes with flying colors.

Very weird.

I've noticed that in Windows XP, USB devices have to re-install themselves every time you connect to a new USB port. For example, if you plug an external hard drive into USB port #2 (which you've never plugged into before) and you've been using port #1, a separate driver / device manager window will pop up and install the device for that port. Perhaps the driver install on the other port requires its own configuration?
