Holo Audio Red Streamer

Just hooked up the RED to my system and it doesn't work with the Intona 3.0 (7055-C) from the USB output in streaming mode. The Intona just can't connect properly to the RED - it flashes and makes a ticking noise at 4Hz (indicates "Full Speed" 12Mbps transmission as per Intona doc but the ticking sound suggests more than that). Tried various USB cables, Ropieee vs RED OS, etc, etc. It works fine directly to my DAC without the Intona in the path and the Intona has worked fine with multiple other streamers/endpoints, so this specific to the RED. Just seems like it's a problem with the USB output on the RED not being able to handshake with the USB input on the Intona.

Now of course, if the RED noise/isolation was good enough to obviate any need for the Intona then that would be fine .... but just a warning to anyone thinking about running a RED into an Intona ....

I have HQPlayer setup to play to USB to May off my 💻. How do I reconfigure it to play to Red? HQP configuration is obtuse to me. Or I to it.
You select HQ Player NAA in Red first, then open HQ Player settings on your PC, and under "Output Device Settings" choose RED in the "Device" line. If it does not appear there, you either have a network problem or Red's NAA is not functioning well. If your HQ Player runs under Roon, you will also need to select HQ Player NAA (or whatever name appears) as the output device. The bottom right corner of Roon's interface. This is provided that you already added HQ Player to Roon, of course.

I got the PC connected to Red via USB and the Red connected to May via I2S, and Wavedream via USB, is this not able to output signals to both at the same time? I'm not getting any signal into the Wavedream.

Can anyone comment on sound quality compared to other streamer transports? @mr_derrick for example?
I use a SOtM SMS-200 ultra HQ Player NAA mode + Uptone Audio JS-2 LPS, Mutec Ref 10 external master clock and Denafrips Gaia DDC. Nothing I have tried has surpassed this combination in SQ but the Red seems to offer these in one box.

I also have the Intona 3.0 7055-C so I gave it a try with the same results, rapid flashing and no lock.
The same occurred with my Sonore Signature SE Optical Rendu to the KTE May
But it worked when running usb direct from my sonicTranspoter i9 via ALSA and a MeLe computer stick used as NAA.
The sound from the Red via usb into the KTE May without PLL is fabulous.
I am running optical into a clocked EtherREGEN that feeds the Red.

Right now with less than 72 hours of playing time I would say that the Red gives the Signature SE Optical a run for the money.
I have to get more run time and listen more, I may still be in the honeymoon phase.
Feeding the Red via fiber with a clocked EtherREGEN A -> B , with the Signature SE Optical you have to go B -> A, it works but is not optimal.
The clocked EtherREGEN sounds cleaner than using a opticalModule Deluxe to feed the Red via fiber.
I am streaming Qobuz and pulling files off of an SSD drive connected to a sonicTransporter i9 optical.
HQPlayer set to 1.4 MHz, unfortunately the EtherREGEN will not pass 1.5 MHz without hiccups, so the 1.4 MHz setting provides 44.1 -> 1.4 and 48 -> 768, with auto rate family checked. ( auto rate family unchecked with 1.4 MHz will convert 48 -> 1.4 )
The opticalModule Deluxe will pass 1.4/1.5 MHz PCM with no problem.
DAC is KTE May.

Thanks for validating.

Quick impression is that my UP Gateway running NAA image —> Intona —> DAC is clearly better than RED OS NAA —> DAC. Not surprising I suppose. Shame I can’t test RED —> Intona —> DAC.

Thanks for your reply. I also have the Etherregen, also clocked externally (Mutec Ref 10, the same that clocks my SOtM streamer). In my system, using HQ player + NAA gives a clear advantage over Roon + Roon ready but I don't upsample, both the filter and dither are set to "none". My DAC can only take PCM192/24 or DSD64 but internally converts everything to 384/40 before it does anything else (DSP: crossover filters, delays, EQ, etc). Its own upsampling algorithm seems to work best when fed native resolution. It's a Devialet Expert D800. I also use Qobuz and own files but HQ Player is integrated into Roon on a dedicated passive PC. Maybe I will just have to order a RED and try. If it doesn't work out, I can always sell it.

Did you try the Aux power input on the intona?
Maybe the RED isn’t supplying enough juice to the Intona + DAC?

@mr_derrick what exactly do you mean by feeding the red via fiber? It does not have a fiber internet input.. I have the Etherregen so I got what you said about the ports. Did you mean there was fiber on the chain going into the ER?
I almost pulled the trigger on the optical SigRendu.. at 1/5th of the price, if the red can match it that it would be magical!

I have 2 runs of optical fiber to my equipment, so I have to use some form of media converter for ethernet.
Either the EtherREGEN or opticalModule.
