Holo Audio Red Streamer

I received my Red today. Set up was easy and sound is good. My issue is I don't know how to specify an IP address in Red OS. Does one need to run a different OS to be able to set an IP address?

Reserve the ip for the reds mac address in your router.

Thanks, but that would not solve the underlying problem. The NAS with my music library is on a subnet that does not use DHCP. I want to put the Red on that same subnet. Unless I can find a way to bridge two subnets the Red and the NAS can't see each other.

I believe that you will need to use an OS that gives you full access to Network settings. RedOS does not let you change anything (at least not easily). RedOS is what it is, it is very limited in what you can do with it.

I finally put my order in for a Red - now the long wait :( and wanted to get in before any potential increase in prices. I've been using the Bluesound Node OG for a long time; but wanted to upgrade the streamer. I wanted better sound quality and some flexibility on outputs but didn't want to go totally high-end (Lumin or Aurender or Auralic); but willing to make tradeoff with user experience and my own effort to make it work. I've come to like the Bluesound app and realize i'll need to go to either HQ NAA or Bubbleupnp. I exclusively use Qobuz for source. I haven't decided on HQ and/or Roon but this gives me an upgrade path so I'm excited.

Congratulations! I’m very happy with my Red. Try different outputs, make sure your Ethernet is clean ( dedicated network switch, good power supplies, Fiber if you want to try this ( a real low cost improvement). I use Moode since yesterday and hear more details compared to Red OS but need more time to really compare. I will also try Gentoo Player wich seems to be the best.
Have fun

Hi, I‘m looking to get some help for GentooPlayer, my registration is on its way. I want to use JPlay so I guess I should select UpMpdCli - do I need to install it? Do I have to change settings to play from internal Ram? I think the Player is not so easy to set up for a non Raspberry guy like me. Any help and findings more than welcome, looks I can even try different kernel versions.

I have an Auralic Aries G2 streamer and it has been sitting on my audio rack unplugged for over a year. I choose to exclusively use my Red because it sounds better and the user-experience with LMS/Material Skin is one of the best. I am running GentooPlayer on my Red as a Squeezelite endpoint (GentooPlayer does take the user-experience down a notch due to it lacking some Squeezelite settings).

Hello,
if you have jplay and it is supported, you must have it installed.
With the assigned Ip from Gentoo you can set and select everything after the release.
A part will probably also be necessary in Jplay.
I only had the test version of Gentoo that I then used my main Pc for this and set the rest on the Ipad, as well as via Roon.
Gentoo is good, the stupid thing is the support is a bit naja and you have to help yourself with long google searches, what is what, terms where you have never heard ect....
You have to get used to it first and then it works.

Edit: Oh, i think i got it.

Hi, I moved to configure and selected MPD to use JPlay or MConnect to control the Red. You can also use MoOde from any browser on your phone, tablet or pc.

Could anyone give me advice or help with Ropieee? I had no problem installing the Ropieee OS and connecting to the webpage, but with Ropieee I cannot get the Red to function as a renderer. The light on the Red is alternately flashing red and green.

Edit: I got Ropieee working with a static IP address and output on AES. Though the little light is still flashing red and green. In the Audio settings I selected "No HAT configured" and enabled "Audio USB". In the Services settings I selected "UPnP/DLNA" and set "Audio Output" to "USB".
