Hi, have you compared sound quality vs RedOS? Does it sound better?

Both RedOS and piCorePlayer sound great, not sure I can detect any difference to be honest. My issue with RedOS is that it doesn't provide for any configuration settings in Squeezelite. Early on I used RedOS in UPnP mode and that also sounded great compared to another (more expensive) streamer I had on hand. I prefer the sound of LMS over UPnP, however. As far as RopieeXL goes, I really have no explanation why I couldn''t get it to work even after several attempts. I know others, including Golden Sound, had it working. In theory, any software that works on a Pi4 should also work on the Red.

Hi, do you use LMS with an iOS app? Which one would recommend?

I use Material Skin in LMS on my iPad using Safari. Material Skin is Browser-based and works extremely well. There is a lot of info/help at the Lyrion forum; the Material Skin thread is under 3rd Party Software.

I consider two possible upgrades with intention to play via I2S connection based on very positive experience (borrowed streamer Rpi with I2S module).

Holo Red as DDC between my Auralic Femto and Pegasus

OR

Auralic replacement by Mano Ultra3.

Any experience or suggestion which one will be better from sound quality point of view? Eventually better choice ?

Can't answer your question except that the Red is a better streamer than the Auralic Femto.

Just got my shipping notification for my Red - should be here in a couple days!! Very excited.

WooHoo!! Got my Red today and for a quick set-up I inserted the Mini SD card before powering on as instructed, went the DDC route running from my MacBook Pro M3 Max via USB to the Red and the Red via I2S to the Denafrips Ares 15th (I did not have to change the default 12S configs, I just switched the #1 switch which I think is correct for activating the default set-up...either way, it is working without much messing around at all) and it got up and running with zero problem. Went from box to running through Roon in less than 5 minutes. (Roon noticed the Holo device with no problems, although it thought it was a Holo Streamer and I just selected the option for my device isn't listed) The change in quality is immediately apparent. I was a serious doubter on whether this would be worth it, but even to my crappy, novice ears the change is like incredibly noticeable.

I am going to mess with the set-up for running it as a streamer when I have a little more time since my situation is a little unique and a hardwire LAN is not as feasible but from what I have read the wireless bridge or wifi repeater should help solve that.

Anyway, I am #1 excited that it was EXTREMELY easy to get running out of the box and #2 how damn good it sounds.

Hi, I’m also using I2S, sounds better than AES in my system. But I kept all switches as they have been set by Holo.

Does the Red have signature like "dark", "bright" in system based on user experience? I understand dependance on respective setup. Anyway, I am looking for "neutral"/ accurate streamer for my setup because it is close to musical side now (powered by tubes). Thank you for sharing.

Hi, I’m using it with the Mola Mola Tambaqui, definitely not dark. I’m still in the system optimisation process, cables…. But if at all it’s on the analytic side. Will know more when everything is set up.

Frankly, Holo Red looks good from versatile point of view, either streamer or DDC. That's my reason to choose Holo instead of Mano Ultra3 (second hand). I can try cheaper streamer i.e. Rpi4 + Holo DDC with better result than Mano. I can save money by Auralic selling .

Anybody an idea how to solve this?

Same here, the MoOde forum suggests to use Raspberry Pi tools but I had no time to test.

I used the named RPI App from kitsune Homepage, but i couldn't choose the OS Image i wan't (MoOde).
