How low is the volume with the non fixed volume firmware?

I measured my output at 1.7Vrms when the specs say 2.5Vrms for DSD. Maybe this is the low volume issue?

Output levels for PCM that's been upsampled to DSD should be 2.5Vrms (XLR) and 1.25Vrms (RCA), i.e. half that of PCM that's output as PCM.

it's not a bug -- it's just the nature of the pcm to dsd conversion algorithm. those more technical than me can explain the details. applications like hqplayer have the ability to adjust output to compensate.

I dont think you are understanding my post

Spec has DSD level 2.5Vrms and I measured 1.7Vrms

This has nothing to do with PCM

To make it clearer - i am getting lower level than the DSD (not PCM...) spec
If you read earlier there is a volume firmware bug mentioned

anyway someone else that understands will chime in

I only became aware of this apparent low volume bug when it was mentioned a few posts back. I assume it doesn't affect me as a Mac-user.

I have a Gustard R26 now and my Cyan 2 is supposed to arrive Tuesday.

My current plan is to get a holo red DDC too to further improve audio quality with a new DAC.

Interested to see how that goes.

Personally I think the USB implementation on Holo stuff is so good that a DDC is redundant but your milage may vary

It’s no secret that DS dacs measure much much better than R2R dacs. The mystery lies in why so many people think R2R dacs just sound better! Slaves to measurements can’t seem to get over that. I am considering getting one just to find out for myself.
