I've just built my first CMOY and am having trouble punching holes in an Altoids can to house it. I tried a steel hole punch and hammer, but the result was a bit messy. I bought a rotary hole punch on Ebay, but it is absolutely hopeless - no where near enough pressure to punch a hole in anything other than paper, cardboard or thin leather. Also, the max hole size is 5mm, but I need 6mm.

Can anyone recommend a suitable hole punch? I'm in Melbourne, Australia, so if anyone knows of a local supplier, I'd be very grateful. I tried Bunnings, but they have only one model and it looks much the same as my "Ebay special". It also only goes up to 5mm.

Thanks.

You need a single hole paper punch, its about 6mm and then use a ream to open out the holes for pots etc

I know it sounds daft but it works

Hi, I hope you can help me. I need to make 4 small holes in champagne top (the metal cap on top of the cork of the champagne bottle). Tried hammer and a nail. Also tried a staple gun, very unstable and also damages the top.
Thanx

Leave the cork bung under the metal

clamp it in a vise using the cork

then drill through the metal into the cork

the cork will stop the metal being distorted

cheers
