Hi, my name is HighLife and im addicted to the Hiss on Kinda of Blue...it gives it that old school feeling to it....kinda brings you back to the time when it was recorded.

I finally bought Kind of Blue and it was on discount. I reached home, placed that CD on my player and put on my HD650. When they started playing and I had the volume adjusted, I don't "hear" the hiss anymore and I quite enjoyed the album!!

If you don't hear hiss on pre 80's recordings the mastering is bad, IOW's excessive noise reduction was used.

Hiss is good, much better than the alternative.

Depends on the amount of hiss.

Generally, too much hiss is bad and no hiss is bad. There must be a balance. But yes, in general, if you can hear the hiss, it is a good thing.

Compare the Capitol Sinatra that is out there now (Norberg Remasters) with an early gray label pressing. Then you shall see and hear the horrors of No Noise.
