Lil Wayne - Starring in Mardi Gras (Mixtape), Da Carter II
T-Pain - Rappa Ternt Sanga, Epiphany - 2 solid albums
Ne-Yo (more blues than hip-hop) - In My Own Words, Because of You - Both are extremely good albums, filled with hits. Good recording quality too.
Akon - Trouble, Konvicted.

Those are the top of the genre for now, if anything they are keeping rap/hip-hop alive in the US. Too many shabby one hit wonders are popping up everywhere, most which suck.

Most of the things he says just makes me sit here and think, what in the world did this dude just say... It has nothing to do with his mainstream success, it has all to do with his lack of being an emcee. I've listened to him and I'm not feelin' em whatsoever. His voice is annoying, his flow is eh, his rhymes are just plain wack. This is all my opinion of course...like I said, it's very subjective.

How can you say "intelligent Hip Hop" is tired? What about the type of "Hip Hop" that is played on the radio and your boy, Lil Wayne "rhyme" about? That isn't tired?

You really are going to put Lil Wayne up there better than Posdouns, Blu, Black Thought, Phonte, Talib and even Mos on his worst day? We must have different ears man! This is all my opinion and to each his own. Yes, the production the dude gets is some of the best, especially on The Carter 3...but seriously? Dude a great emcee? I'm trying to decipher why people are calling him that, not hating or disrespecting his fans. I must not be hearing the same thing you're hearing.

But back to suggestions, Atmosphere is another group worth mentioning. Slug, another emcee better than Lil Wayne.

Man o man. Lil Wayne Is the BEST RAPPER ALIVE RIGHT NOW. I aint no dick rider and aint even a huge fan, but you can deny his hustle no one works harder for hip hop than him. He may be in it for the money but he kills anything right now, you cant deny results.
And lol i like that you complain that his wordplay is to complicated for you. Lol and you put him up agains Kweli Mos and such he would kill em, ya they are amazing rappers but he would just spit fire and they would be like..... let me write gimme 30 min. Not many other rappers out there have the versitilty of Wayne, i mean he can jump on any track and fit in. He switches his flow up with like every song, and just kills em.

I aint a dick rider im just tellin ya how it is, this is coming from someone whos fav is Kool G Rap n KRS One, but Wayne has been killin it nowadays. Theres gotta be new talent you cant just look back forever.

... don't really think that's what souledout meant, yeah?

Lil' Wayne the best rapper alive? He's definitely improved since his days with the Hot Boys, but objectively, I seriously doubt he's ever going to be ranked up there as one of the greats.

G Rap and KRS, now that's a whole other story ...

sahwnfras - Quantity doesn't equal Quality.

I didn't mean his rhymes were complicated for me to understand, I meant what did this dude just say in the way of I can't believe he just said that. That verse where is says he is like a venereal disease just made me

Sorry, I just can't get into him. Most of his rhymes are wack to me, while some are pretty dope, I admit. But him considered the greatest alive? Not in my opinion, not even considered.

I will say though that I love "Comfortable" on Tha Carter III, mainly because of the amazing beat supplied by Kanye. Wish Kanye gave that beat to Talib, Mos, Lupe...wonder what they could of done with it.

I gotta add another rec. Check out Flobots. They are pretty dope. They have a viola player in the group, along with guitar, drums and bass.

EDIT: I don't agree with Lil Wayne fitting in with any song. I remember a track on Getback by Little Brother called "Breakin My Heart" and he ruined the song imo. I can't even imagine him with a track with Talib or Mos...

agreed. back to recs...

Count Bass D - Dwight Spitz. A bunch of short tracks, some just instrumentals, some with rhymes. Very dope, love this album.
Binary Star - Masters Of The Universe. Considered an underground classic!
Jaylib - Champion Sound. J Dilla over Madlib, Madlib over J Dilla. Amazing.
The Foreign Exchange - Connected. Quite possibly my favorite album. The whole feel of the album is incredible. Really makes you feel good.
