Best southern rap album according to pitchfork. it was a nice album. nothing special though. basic rapper with a talented producer. if i was a hipster i would rate it like a 7 out of 10.

Well, since I don't read Pitchfork I'll have to take your word for it, but I can tell you that Mike would get a big kick out of being a hipster fave after all the years he's been in the game. It might mean he's finally gonna get good and paid. Haven't heard the entire record, but I dug the track and have been kinda pulling for him since he first surfaced with OutKast. Monster, his 2003 debut, was promising, but I kinda lost track after that…

its nice hes getting some shine but he really isnt doing anything new. same old killer mike(not a bad thing). the only thing new is the whole album is produced by EL-P. killer mike knows hes hipster friendly, hes done more than one video with pitchfork http://pitchfork.com/tv/selector/1707-killer-mike/ . so if any props are given its el-p and pitchfork for giving it a high score that hipsters cant ignore.

…it's interesting, hearing that Killer Mike track right after Jay Electronica made me wonder if depression in the hip-hop community was becoming a thing…

What does pitchfork have to do with anything? I listened to this 2 weeks before they reviewed it and my opinion hasnt changed. p4k is ****... They gave the same score to gucci mane. And they love lil b.

I honestly have no idea why people take p4ks opinions on hip hop seriously anymore.

its funny how a while back ago everyone hated southern rap, claimed it was killing hip-hop. All of a sudden the same people love big krit and similar artist. I bring this up cuz of krits new album " Live From The Underground" and the song "what u mean". That would never get a pass from a backpacker 5 years ago. so far the krit is classic southern rap homage.

Geez…no disrespect, but that argument is maaaadddd lame. Firstly, the subject matter of some of Big K.R.I.T.'s more recent stuff (I'm talking 4Eva N A Day) is much more reflective than a lot of popular early hip-hop from the South, and even if it wasn't, um, 'So what?' People change their minds about stuff all the time…opinions mature, taste evolves, whatever. Who says anyone has to stay in a little box their entire lives?

i just found it funny. its hard to ignore the whole southern music is killing hip-hop and all of a sudden its not. sure people can mature and krit is not more reflective than previous southern rap. thats the problem, people pretending like southern rap just got good when it hasnt changed in a long time.

I dunno…it's hard to imagine fans of Big K.R.I.T. and OutKast going for ignorant-ass Master P and Lil Jon…

Thats what i was saying. how can an "ignorant" K.R.I.T song get a pass but others cant? http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/singles/id.20507/title.big-krit-f-ludacris-what-u-mean . Nothing bad about p or lil jon. they have good music here and there too.

We're not saying the same thing. I'd never heard the song linked to, and yes, it's pretty weak. BUT…truth is, that seems to be more a reflection of Ludacris than K.R.I.T. It sounds like most of the obvious stuff I can't stand by Luda…

well we aint gonna get anywhere then. krits verse's sucked just as bad if not worse than luda on that track. The whole point i was trying to make was that the new Big K.R.I.T album is way less conscious than his previous albums and is pretty much a throwback southern album.. meaning that it sounds like tons of southern music created before krit. Yet it will be considered dope and fresh by the same people that hated southern music not to long ago.

here's a stream of the new KRIT album. im sure anyone thats a hip-hop fan has already heard it though since i came out 3 days ago and thats like 3 weeks in the internet world. http://www.npr.org/2012/05/27/153604174/first-listen-big-k-r-i-t-live-from-the-underground
