Hilarious flash animation toon: tech support

Am I the only one who didn't find the first movie funny at all? The Conan movie was sort of funny, but if that guy ever shows up at my front door I'll have the terrible urge to slam the door in his face.

That was hysterical.

By the way, the flash animation link i posted doesn't say "India Sucks," the message behind it is "Outsourcing sucks."

Don't take things so personal

If you look at the economics - outsourcing is what allows you to buy a cheaper product. If you dont like it then I recommend you start making a whole lotta $$$ because things are gonna get pretty pricey when outsourcing goes away.

You think the company will suck up the cost? nah - they'll dump it on ya poor friggin customer

I dont take offense so easy when people say India sucks...I think India does suck in certain ways but there are more beautiful things about that country that makes up for the mess

My view on Outsourcing:
almost like making shoes
I do belive that if a 3rd world country has a talent that can be harvested and are willing to compete as the cheapest global economy and provide quality
So be it, they have an advantage

IMO India has some fantastic software developers and engineers (IT tech's etc.)
Good effecient code from what i've seen from all sorts of platforms and packages

Great stuff

But where I draw the line is how companies such as "comcast, at&t sprint etc.", who own subsiduary companies to pawn off their tech support to india, I feel is just being greedy and are jepordizing their ability to provide quality

1. Language Barrier, well now how many of us have been frustraited when it takes close to an hour to explain how our name and phone number is spelt?
Or when using common words in our society causes confusion within the "call"

2. Ability to properly advance issues, whether it be billing, or a technical or advertizing issue
It takes that much longer to have to go through all these leasians to acctuality address an issue
and often times they don't even get addressed (damned amex who owes me $300 that i haven't seen in a month yet)

3. It is taking advantage of a country who is in development. I do like the fact that it is providing job. But in a country such as india where their population is approaching a billion and has been detramented by their "caste" society (appologize but it definately is bull****) has caused so much competition it's ridiculious. This causes no job security for the employees, and these companies are taking advantage knowing so and offering such bare miniumum wages. (and from what I hear, even in that country is low)

4. These companies know what kind of issues there is with outsourcing, but on a cost/benefit analysis, in theory is proactive and generates "crazy" revenue. A company like AT&T probably owns the OC31 communication lines to India, and pay their employee peanuts. Yet have they lowered their rates? Shown any continual improvements?
The answer is NO and the fact that this is so that the balance sheets show a good 3rd Quarter report and dividand yield is probably a slight of a percent higher they just don't care
The worst part is this, I'll gaurantee that most of the shareholders have to put up with the outsourcing bull**** themselves

Helpdesk outsourcing to India or any other country where english is not a first lanauge is a compout

p.s. also this is deterimental to the industry within the coutnryof the company doing the outsourcing

Another thing I don't like, is how the "CN" visa to the USA was given so freely, to any 'sepcialized' service employees from any other country
(i'm not american neither)
but Rather large companys have disbanded thier own employees to hire out of country, as again, saves money from things such as HR administration, and benefits, and can terminate contracts at the blink of an eye
Though I must admit alot of these workers are the creme of the crop from other countries (due to competition), the CN visa is supposed to be specialized and that only they should recieve a visa, if no one else is willing or able to take the position

r3ccos - I agree with some of your points - but this thread has to be taken outside (where it will go anyway considering how these discussions usually turn out).

India sucks because :-

* Politics
* Corruption
* Poverty
* Population
* Caste/Religion/Social Status problems
* Politics (yes again
wink.gif
)
* Film Industry is too powerful
* Underground criminals / Mafia
* People are intelligent but selfish and scared easily

India is awesome because :-

* People are intelligent
* Beautiful country marred only by populated places - visit the remote areas to understand why I love the place
* Courteous people
* Buying power is high - which is why the "minimal wages" you observe keeps people happy. I can get a full multi-course meal for less than $5.00 over there (Around RS.250.00).

Cheers!

As an American that finds Outsourcing reprehensible, i'd be willing to pay more money if the product was manufactured in the USA. As for outsourcing in regards to technologies, i work in the field and think what has happened to that particular field has had a major negative impact on it as a whole. I've had quite a few co-workers lose their jobs to outsourcing so i dont have any positive things to say about it. I never said "India Sucks!," but i do believe the customer service they provide is substandard.

If i had a pc problem, i'd rather talk to someone who isn't trying to pass off as an American.

Unfortunately a majority of america doesnt want to pay any more than necessary and provided the product works well they dont care about calling tech support anyway.

But i do believe the customer service they provide is substandard.

If I have a PC problem - I FIX IT MYSELF

I agree that the service is substandard but here is my point :- Those poor people have NO IDEA what it is like to be in america and talk to americans. When I worked tech support I would talk to the customer about the last football game (depending on the day) or some recent events...made them feel at home while I got to the root of the issue. But I was in USA and I knew how the american mind works in most cases.

Being in India, in that economy and culture - and without adequate training (yes - these peeps are recruited based on what they did in school and university - training is minimal at best) those people dont stand a chance.

However - I see a plus side. When I call tech support for an RMA and if I am a few days off the last date - if the person is Indian - I ASK FOR THEIR REAL NAME and get an RMA anyway

LOL

Works for me...im not complaining...

The world is a global economy - you cannot afford to have feelings of "nationality" these days. Kona makes bikes in USA. Cannondale also. Raleigh makes bikes in China, Trek makes bikes in Asia. All your computers and RAM and CPU's are from Asia...

Get the best you can out of the cheapest possible production methods without compromising quality. Thats it. Like it or leave it.

I'm all for getting the best quality without compromising quality, but we all know that it doesn't work that way. Most Americans are paying more for gas to fill up their cars now then they we're four years ago, right? Are they rioting? No. Milk prices have shot up, people are still buying milk. What it would come down to is that people would decide what is a neccessity and what is not in regards to in-housing production or outsoucing it. I guess it's a balancing act in regards to outsourcing.

Like it or leave what exactly? Not sure what you're implying here.
