IDK if it's the best way... it's certainly a good way. Thats what they are designed for so you know you'll be using them as they were intended. The amps are built in and designed around the drivers so you won't have to worry about finding an amp with the right amount of juice or worrying about impedance levels.
On the other hand they are a bit limited and won't be of much use beyond your computer setup. Since they are usually used with mixing board to control volume gain controls are usually located on the back so you'll have to control volume at the software level.
Bookshelfs/passive monitors require an dedicated amp which can be seen as a negative but that also gives more flexibility in that you'll be able to control volume from the amp, many also have remotes which is nice. You'll also be able upgrade your amp and speakers separately.
I'm sure you can get great results either way. Personally I was really leaning towards getting the KEFs because I'm more familiar with the consumer side of things and wasn't really interested in a purely neutral sound. The KEFs are also about 100x better looking than any of the monitors I was looking at (admit it looks count
).
In the end though I went with neither and decided to build my own. I've got a ways to go but it should be fun
